Google Announces Web-Based Samsung Chromebook for $ 249

Late on Thursday, Google unveiled the Samsung Chromebook laptop which will be priced at $ 249. At this price point, the new notebook should be affordable to many different kinds of consumers. The Chromebook is powered by a Samsung Exynos 5 dual-core processor and features an 11.6-inch display, 16 GB of flash storage, built-in web camera, and USB 3.0 ports. The notebook weighs less than 2.5 pounds and will have a battery life of more than 6 hours of runtime. Google will push users to their cloud storage service where Chromebook users will get 100 GB of Google Drive storage for two years for free. It will be interesting to see how Google and Samsung market the Chromebook, but at $ 249, we think the price is right.

Since last year, Google, through its Chromebooks, has been trying to change the way people use computers. The laptops have basically no storage, and instead save files to the Internet, where they are stored in servers at Google’s massive data centers.

Chromebooks also only run Web apps, such as Pandora, Netflix or most of Google’s services, including Gmail. You can’t install software on to the computer itself.
